The bottom line is that creating a pro-sounding home podcast studio is possible, no matter how small your budget or house space. For others, it means a USB mic sitting in a cat bed (more on this later!). For some, it means soundproofed walls, a large sleek padded table, and multiple mics running onto a mixer. In practical terms, do not use the equipment or materials in the Makerspace to create things that you intend to sell or you plan to make more than 5 copies of a project for distribution.The term “home podcast studio” can mean different things to different people. Commercial or large-scale production use of the makerspace is not allowed at this time. This includes making copies of artwork, objects, or other material that you are not authorized to reproduce. Do not use the Makerspace to violate the intellectual property rights of others. All checked out equipment must be returned prior to closing.
Some printers are capable of restarting prints the next day for larger projects. Use of machines, such as the 3D printers, must be finished before the Makerspace is closed. Smaller items will be checked out for internal use inside the Makerspace or library.Įquipment can only run during the hours in which the Makerspace is open. Some equipment can be reserved ahead of time the remainder is first-come-first-served. Users must be certified to use some specific pieces of equipment in the Makerspace, including individual certification for the laser cutters, FDM style 3D printers, LCD style 3D resin printers, the sound room, 3D scanner, latex printer, and cameras.
The Makerspace is NOT open to the general public. This may include models for an assignment, research instruments, prototypes of a theoretical design, original art pieces, or personal learning.
Any Murray State University student, faculty, and staff member who wants to create for educational purposes is eligible to use the Makerspace.
